Van kinderzorg naar volwassenzorg: transitie van patiënten met persisterende, niet-syndromale lagere-urinewegsymptomen

Lagere-urinewegsymptomen (LUTS) omvatten klachten zoals mictiestoornissen, incontinentie en urgency, met grote impact op de levenskwaliteit. Bij kinderen kunnen LUTS neurologisch geassocieerd zijn (bv. bij meningomyelocele of sacrale agenesie), maar vaak betreft het niet-syndromale LUTS, geassocieerd met incontinentia diurna of enuresis.

LUTS komt voor bij 10% van 6-15-jarigen (2). Lange tijd dacht men dat deze klachten spontaan verdwenen na zindelijkheidstraining, maar ze kunnen persisteren tot in de adolescentie of volwassenheid, ook na behandeling (3). Ondanks deze persisterende klachten ontbreken richtlijnen voor opvolging en transitie naar volwassenzorg.

Dit artikel beoogt artsen te informeren over het belang van gestructureerde transitiebegeleiding en biedt handvaten voor multidisciplinaire samenwerking, met als doel optimale zorgcontinuïteit.
